DESCRIPTION:<p>Proyecto &ldquo\;Nuevos paradigmas de la teor&iacute\;a est&eacute\;tica contempor&aacute\;nea&rdquo\;&nbsp\;(UNAM PAPIIT IG400713)<br><br>Dominic McIver Lopes is Distinguished University Scholar and Professor in the Department of&nbsp\;Philosophy at the University of British Columbia. He works mainly in aesthetics and is a member of&nbsp\;the UBC aesthetics group. His research focusses on pictorial representation and perception\; the&nbsp\;aesthetic and epistemic value of pictures\, including scientific images\; theories of art and its value\;&nbsp\;the ontology of art\; and computer art and new art forms. He is the author of several books: A&nbsp\;Philosophy of Computer Art (2009)\, Sight and Sensibility: Evaluating Pictures (2005)\,&nbsp\;Understanding Pictures (1996)\, as well as of a number of articles in prestigious journals. Lopes is&nbsp\;President of the American Society for Aesthetics (2013-15). He is also a member of the Executive&nbsp\;Committee of the British Society of Aesthetics\, Secretary-Treasurer of the American Philosophical&nbsp\;Association Pacific Division\, a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Aesthetics and Art&nbsp\;Criticism\, and co-editor (with Berys Gaut) of Wiley-Blackwell&rsquo\;s New Directions in Aesthetics book&nbsp\;series.<br><br>Jesse Prinz is a Distinguished Professor of philosophy and director of the Committee for&nbsp\;Interdisciplinary Science Studies at the City University of New York\, Graduate Center. Prinz works&nbsp\;primarily in the philosophy of psychology and has authored several books\, among others<br>Furnishing the Mind: Concepts and Their Perceptual Basis (2002)\, Gut Reactions: A Perceptual&nbsp\;Theory of Emotion (2004)\, The Emotional Construction of Morals (2007)\, Beyond Human Nature&nbsp\;(2012)\, and over 100 articles\, addressing such topics as emotion\, moral psychology\, aesthetics and&nbsp\;consciousness. Much of his work in these areas has been a defense of empiricism against&nbsp\;psychological nativism\, and he situates his work as in the naturalistic tradition. Prinz is also an&nbsp\;advocate of experimental philosophy.
