DESCRIPTION:<p><strong>Call for Abstracts</strong></p>\n<p><strong>Extended Deadline</strong></p>\n<p><strong>March 25</strong></p>\n<p><strong>The Ethics of Trust and Expertise</strong></p>\n<p>The&nbsp\;&nbsp\;Horizon 2020 European Commission funded research project&nbsp\;PERITIA&nbsp\;is calling for abstracts for an in person/hybrid conference on the&nbsp\;&nbsp\;ethical&nbsp\;&nbsp\;issues relevant to trust and expertise.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>The conference will be hosted by the American University of Armenia\, in the beautiful capital city of Yerevan\, on May 31 and June 1\, 2022.&nbsp\;&nbsp\;The event is co-organised by the Centre for Ethics in Public Life\, University College Dublin\, Ireland.</p>\n<p>Keynote speakers include&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>&Aring\;sa Wikforss (University of Stockholm)</p>\n<p>Paul Boghossian (NYU)</p>\n<p>Lynne Tirrell (University of Connecticut)</p>\n<p>We invite the submission of abstracts of up to 300 words to reach us by March 25 2022.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>Abstracts and enquires should be sent to&nbsp\;peritia@ucd.ie</p>\n<p>The conference will focus on ethics and normative issues relevant to public trust\, the nature of expertise\,&nbsp\;&nbsp\;and the role of experts in public life and politics.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>Topics of interest to the project include\, but are not limited to:</p>\n<p>The normative dimensions of trust</p>\n<p>The value of trust (and distrust)</p>\n<p>The ethical requirements of trust</p>\n<p>The Wh of trust? (When\, why and who should we trust?)</p>\n<p>The moral dimension of trust/distrust in experts</p>\n<p>The ethical obligations of expert advice</p>\n<p>The democratic deficit of epistocracies</p>\n<p>Moral expertise</p>\n<p>The conference will primarily focus on philosophical approaches to trust and expertise\, but&nbsp\;&nbsp\;contributions from&nbsp\;&nbsp\;cognate areas of media and communication studies\, information science\, public policy\, social and political sciences\, and science studies are also welcome as are papers applying&nbsp\;the topics listed to&nbsp\;issues relevant to climate change of COVID 19&nbsp\;.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>Information regarding acceptance should be available by early April 2022.&nbsp\;&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>Selected papers will be considered for publication in a special issue or edited volume.</p>\n<p>A number of conference grants will be available for early career researchers and advanced&nbsp\;&nbsp\;PhD students who do not have access to institutional support for travel. Please indicate your interest when submitting your abstract. The conference will not charge a registration fee. Food and accommodation prices in Yerevan compare well with other capital cities.&nbsp\;</p>\n<p>Information about the conference and travel to Armenia will&nbsp\;&nbsp\;be available from&nbsp\;https://peritia-trust.eu.</p>\n<p>Please note that there are no visa requirements for entering Armenia from most countries\, including&nbsp\;&nbsp\;the EU\, the UK\, the USA and Australia.</p>
