Philosophy and Generative Grammar

Online conference May 4&ndash\;6\, 2022

For more than sixty years\, generative grammar has had a significant impact on the ways philosophers think about language and the mind. This conference aims at bringing together philosophers and linguists to discuss topics in the philosophy of generative grammar and linguistic developments that may be of interest to philosophers.

We invite abstracts for 50-minutes talks (30-minutes-presentation + 20-minutes-Q&\;A). Abstracts can be in English or Spanish. Each submitted abstract should be anonymised and should be no longer than 500 words&mdash\;references are excluded from this word-limit. \;

Possible topics include:

The concept of I-language and the role of I-languages as the objects of linguistic theory
The epistemology/methodology of generative linguistics
Generative grammar and the internalism/externalism debate in the philosophy of mind
The interaction between the language faculty and other cognitive systems
Nativism about the language
The usefulness of referentialist semantics for generative linguistics
The philosophical significance of the minimalist program
The syntax/semantics interface \;

Abstracts discussing technical developments in formal syntax or formal semantics will be welcome\, provided that they throw light on some philosophical aspect of generative grammar.

Filosofí\;a y gramá\;tica generativa

Congreso en lí\;nea. \;4 a 6 de mayo de 2022

Durante má\;s de sesenta añ\;os\, la gramá\;tica generativa ha influenciado significativamente la manera en que los filó\;sofos piensan acerca del lenguaje y la mente. Este congreso busca congregar a filó\;sofos y lingü\;istas para discutir sobre la filosofí\;a de la gramá\;tica generativa y sobre desarrollos lingü\;í\;sticos que puedan tener relevancia para la filosofí\;a.

Invitamos a investigadores interesados a presentar resú\;menes para conferencias de 50 minutos (30 minutos de presentació\;n + 20 minutos de discusió\;n). Los resú\;menes pueden estar escritos en españ\;ol o en inglé\;s. Deben ser anó\;nimos y no han de exceder las 500 palabras &ndash\;excluyendo el apartado de bibliografí\;a&ndash\;.

El concepto de lenguaje-I y el papel de los lenguajes-I como objetos de estudio de la teorí\;a lingü\;í\;stica
La epistemologí\;a/metodologí\;a de la lingü\;í\;stica generativa
La gramá\;tica generativa y el debate internismo/externismo en la filosofí\;a de la mente
La interacció\;n entre la facultad del lenguaje y otros sistemas cognitivos
Innatismo acerca del lenguaje
La utilidad de la semá\;ntica referencialista para la lingü\;í\;stica generativa
La relevancia filosó\;fica del programa minimista
La integració\;n de la sintaxis y la semá\;ntica

Los resú\;menes que aborden desarrollos té\;cnicos de la sintaxis formal o la semá\;ntica formal será\;n bienvenidos\, siempre y cuando arrojen luz sobre algú\;n aspecto filosó\;fico de la gramá\;tica generativa.
