We are pleased to share the following CFP for the 3rd annual meeting of the Southeastern Association for the Continental Tradition (SEACT). \;Our meeting will be held in person and via Zoom April 8-9\, 2022. Our host institution is \;New College of Florida \;in Sarasota\, FL.
\nThis Year&rsquo\;s Theme: &ldquo\;New Directions in Continental Philosophy&rdquo\;
\nLast year&rsquo\;s theme\, &ldquo\;Time\, Historicity\, and Repetition: Continental Approaches to the History of Philosophy\,&rdquo\; encouraged us to look to the past. With this year&rsquo\;s theme\, &ldquo\;New Directions in Continental Philosophy\,&rdquo\; we take aim at the future. What approaches\, ideas\, and figures comprise the future of continental philosophy? Why these directions and not others? What existing positions should be carried on in the tradition? Whose voices will (not) be heard? What impact can continental philosophy make in the 21st century and beyond?
\nSEACT invites both scholarly work and teaching pedagogy aimed at the undergraduate level as well as undergraduate submissions.
\nSEACT was created to provide a new space for scholars of continental philosophy living in the Southeast region to come together and share their work with one another. We aim to deliver a conference inclusive of myriad continental approaches\, ideas\, and figures. We are especially invested in the growth of continental philosophy at the undergraduate level. The location of our annual meeting rotates among member institutions. Each meeting will be devoted to a particular theme agreed upon in advance by our members. As a way of building our new community\, we suggest optional excursions as part of our time together at our annual meetings. We believe that philosophical community extends beyond the confines of the traditional conference format. For more information please see our website: \;https://seactphilosophy.wordpress.com/.
\nInstructions for Submissions:
\nTo submit\, please send an abstract of 300-500 words along with the following information:
\nThe abstract and the accompanying information should be sent by Feb 15\, 2022 to \;seactphilosophy@gmail.com. Notifications of decision will be sent by Feb 28.
\nOptions for Presentations:
\nScholarly presentations at SEACT can take a variety of forms. When you send in your abstract\, please specify which type of presentation would be most appropriate.
\nSpecial Instructions for Undergraduate Students:
\nSEACT welcomes undergraduate student participants. Undergraduate students may apply to attend and/or present at the conference. To do so\, they should send a letter of recommendation by a faculty advisor that speaks to how they are prepared to benefit from participating in the conference. Generally speaking\, undergraduate participants will be advanced in their BA program (usually seniors who have taken several philosophy courses)\, but exceptions will be made for exceptional students. Undergraduate students can have their faculty advisor send their letter of recommendation directly to \;seactphilosophy@gmail.com \;or\, if they are submitting an abstract\, can include their advisor&rsquo\;s letter in their own email submission.
