All welcome!
\n
ABSTRACT:
\n
"Nonnegotiable Meanings"
We often use language creatively\, introducing new expressions on the fly. That we can successfully communicate with novel expressions\, the meaning of which was established on the fly\, without antecedent semantic knowledge\, has led many towards dynamic meaning hypothesis: the idea that meaning is dynamics in that we can actively renegotiate extant linguistic conventions to better suite our communicative\, practical\, and normative concerns. We argue that this is a mistake: meanings are non-negotiable\, and meta-linguistic negotiation can neither change word meaning nor secure a mutually shared content presupposed in communication.
\n
ZOOM LINK:
\n
Topic: APD seminar
\n
Time: Mar 7\, 2022 02:30 PM Warsaw
\n
Join Zoom Meeting https://zoom.us/j/97056989319?pwd=dUdjWFkvWUU3eFo0RVJzT1FqOTNHZz09
\n
Meeting ID: 970 5698 9319
\n
Passcode: D5g1nk
