DESCRIPTION:<p>The Tuebingen Graduate Conferences in Practical Philosophy aim to provide an&nbsp\;opportunity for young scholars in practical philosophy and related fields to&nbsp\;gain experiences in presenting and discussing their own work with&nbsp\;distinguished researchers in the respective field. The Graduate Conferences&nbsp\;are organized by a team of graduate and PhD students at the philosophy&nbsp\;department of Tuebingen University. This year&rsquo\;s Conference is dedicated to&nbsp\;the question &ldquo\;Is punishment immoral? &ndash\; philosophical perspectives on a legal&nbsp\;practice&rdquo\; and centers on the topic of justification of legal punishment from&nbsp\;philosophical and legal perspectives. Papers will be presented and discussed&nbsp\;together with our Keynote-Speakers<br><br>The conference will take place in Tuebingen on 23th May and 24th May 2013.<br>The conference language is English.<br><br>This year we invite papers from graduate and PhD students from criminal law&nbsp\;studies or moral philosophy to foster interdisciplinary discussion. Papers&nbsp\;may cover (among others) the following topics:<br><br></p>\n<ul>\n<li>What is punishment?</li>\n<li>What is the purpose of punishment?</li>\n<li>What is it to deserve punishment?</li>\n<li>What is it to be guilty / innocent?</li>\n<li>Why should / shouldn&rsquo\;t we punish wrong-doing?</li>\n<li>Strategies of moral and/or legal justification of punishment</li>\n<li>How can the severity of punishment be related to the severity of wrong-doing?</li>\n<li>What is the role of blame for punishment?</li>\n<li>What is the role of moral responsibility for punishment?</li>\n<li>What is the role of moral luck for the justification of punishment?</li>\n<li>What should be the effect of punishment?</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br>Submission details:</p>\n<p>Please send your extended abstract (1000-1500 words) or paper (3500-4000&nbsp\;words) to jon.leefmann[at]student.uni-tuebingen.de</a>&nbsp\;&nbsp\;until 21st April 2013.&nbsp\;We will inform you about the acceptance of your paper as soon as possible&nbsp\;but by the end of April at the latest.</p>\n<p>For further information please visit our website at</p>
