DESCRIPTION:
Venue:Institute of Philosophy\,Heidelberg University
\n
Date:20-21August 2022
\n
Funds: Accomodation costs of speakers are covered. Limited funds are available to cover travel costs of speakers.
\n
&nbsp\;Acknowledgements: This workshop is funded by the DFG (German Research Foundation).
\n
Arguments about personhood\, self-consciousness\, and the first-person perspective are often intertwined. Can self-consciousness be explained by the indexical &lsquo\;I&rsquo\;? Is self-consciousness necessary for personhood? Or are these issues best kept separate: Is &lsquo\;I&rsquo\; merely a linguistic phenomenon and personhood best understood as a social or narrative concept?
\n
Especially in the discussion about personal identity\, these questions are often crucial: Are we biological organisms or defined by consciousness? Are there criteria of personal identity or is our identity best understood in analogy to criteria free self-reference?
\n
We invite paper presentations on the topics of personhood\, self-consciousness\, or the first-person perspective as well as on the persistence of persons or the self.
\n
Submission:
\n
- Abstracts should be roughly 500 words (excluding references)
\n
- Paper presentations will be around 30 to 40 minutes
\n
Please send your abstract to markus.herrmann@ps.uni-heidelberg.de by 31th of Mai. Notifications of acceptance will be sent no later than 15th of June.
\n
Proceedings:
\n
- Revised versions of the presented papers are planned to be published in the proceedings of the workshop
\n
Organizer
\n
Dr. Markus Herrmann
\n
Philosophische Fakult&auml\;t Heidelberg
\n
markus.herrmann@ps.uni-heidelberg.de
