Details

The Department of Philosophy at the University of Southampton is pleased
to announce that we will be holding a 6th Form Philosophy Conference on
Thursday 7th November.

The conference will include lectures on a variety of accessible
philosophical topics delivered in an engaging way by philosophers on
staff, with plenty of time for Q & A. Lectures are followed by smaller
break-out sessions, in which students participate in seminar-style
discussion. We have also scheduled a campus tour and a Q &A session on
studying philosophy at university.  Please find a provisional timetable
below.

10.40-11.20: Lecture 1 (Epistemology) -  “What good is knowledge?”, Dr

11.20-11.45:  Epistemology Group Discussion
12.00-1.00: Tours
1.00-2.00: Lunch
2.00 -2.45: Lecture 2 (Ethics) – “Are there some things you should never
do, no matter what the consequences?”, Dr Fiona Woollard
2.45-3.00: Coffee Break:
3.00-3.20: Ethics Group Discussion
3.20-3.35: Q & A about studying Philosophy at University: (with brief
discussion of what we look for in a personal statement)
