In recent years, increasing attention has been paid to the ontology of groups, and also to the circumstances under which it might be legitimate and/or fruitful to ascribe to groups such properties as agency, consciousness, responsibility and personhood. The conference aims is to structure and constrain this ongoing debate by examining the theoretical and practical uses to which the concept of a group is put in philosophy, social science, psychology, biology, and to consider how philosophical reflection can contribute to integrating the different accounts offered within these domains.
