The Evidence workshop
Philosophy dept., University of Kent
Canterbury, Kent
4—5 June 2014
Darwin Lecture Theatre 2
http://southnorm.wordpress.com/2014/02/11/evidence-conference-at-kent/
Organisers: Julien Murzi (Kent/MCMP) and Michael Wilde (Kent).
Description: It is usually thought that a rational agent should proportion her beliefs to her evidence–only then will her beliefs be rational, justified, or qualify as knowledge. But just what counts as evidence is often the subject of much controversy. In this workshop, leading philosophers will come together to discuss competing accounts of evidence. Special attention will be given to Timothy Williamson’s account of evidence as knowledge. In a mini-symposium, three critics of Williamson’s account of evidence (Brown, McGlynn, and Jon Williamson) will present papers to which Williamson himself will then respond.
Speakers:
Jessica Brown (Arche, St Andrews)
Ruth Hibbert (Kent)
Clayton Littlejohn (King’s College London)
Aidan McGlynn (Edinburgh)
Paulina Sliwa (Cambridge)
Michael Wilde (Kent)
Timothy Williamson (Oxford)
Jon Williamson (Kent)
Attendance is free, but participants are asked to register by e-mailing Michael Wilde ([email protected]).
The conference is sponsored by The Mind Association, Centre for Reasoning, and Kent Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities.
