Sharing the World
A one-day event of shared talks and a discussion with Luce Irigaray (CNRS; Leverhulme Visiting Professor, University of Bristol), Michael Marder (University of the Basque Country), Judith Still (University of Nottingham), and a panel of postgraduate and early career researchers.
Thursday 30 October, Reception Room, Wills Memorial Building, University of Bristol, Bristol, UK
10:30am-6:00pm
In philosopher Luce Irigaray’s book, Sharing the World (Bloomsbury, 2008), she writes:
We cannot share the world as it already is, with the exception of the natural world. The world that we can share is always and still to be elaborated by us and between us starting from the perception and affirmation of what and who we are as humans here and now (pg.136).
Globalisation, the blending of cultures and traditions, concern about climate change and the fate of all living beings who inhabit the Earth force us to learn how to coexist and share with human and non-human others, in order not only to save our planet and humanity, but also to work towards their development.
This event brings together three distinguished speakers and a panel of postgraduate and early career researchers to reflect on sharing life with the natural world and other living beings, respectful of their mutual differences.
The event is free to attend. Lunch and tea/coffee will be provided.
