Suffering plays a complex role in people’s lives, having affective, motivational, and cognitive aspects. The ways in which one can suffer appear diverse: suffering experiences range from those with obvious physical components, e.g. bodily pain and nausea, to others with obvious emotional components, e.g. depression and grief.

This workshop will focus on the respects in which emotional and physical suffering are similar and different, ethically, experientially, functionally and neurologically. We aim to foster interdisciplinary research in an area that is at an early stage.

We invite submissions from philosophy and empirical sciences for 30 minute presentations. Please submit an abstract of 500 words to [email protected]

Abstract Submission Deadline: February 20th, 2015.

Notification of Acceptance: February 28th, 2015.
