John Petrov Plamenatz, Chichele Professor of Social and Political Theory, Oxford University; was born on May 16th 1912 in Cetinje, Montenegro and died on February 19th 1975 in Hook Norton, England.

A conference to commemorate the centenary of his birth is planned on 4-5 September 2012 in Oriel College, Oxford, lasting from mid-day to mid-day. Accommodation and meals will be available in the College.

Papers will be read and discussed, centring on the main themes of the lectures on Machiavelli, Hobbes, and Rousseau, which he was preparing to give at Cambridge University in the autumn of 1975. The edited text of the lectures is being published by the Oxford University Press in June of this year. The conference's steering committee consists of Prof. David Miller, Dr Mark Philp and Dr Zbigniew Pelczynski.
