Call for papers

At the end of the Nineteen-Eighties, the International Conference on Persons (ICP) was set up to promote dialogue between different philosophical traditions on  the theme of the person.
The first International Conference on Persons was held in 1989 at Mansfield College, University of Oxford. The conference continues today, and personalist philosophers, philosophers of education, philosophers of law, philosophers of language, psychologists, engineers, neuroscientists, historians, sociologists, scholars of literature, and teachers, participate in this international dialogue.
The 14th International Conference on Persons (ICP) will be hosted by the Department of Humanities, University of Calabria, Italy from 24th to 27th May 2017.

Papers in any area or discipline are welcome, so long as their themes are relevant to the idea and or concept of persons, personhood, and personality.

The submission deadline for abstracts or full papers is November 30, 2016. Papers and/or abstracts will be reviewed by a committee. Notification of acceptance will be made via email by January 10, 2017. Full paper versions of accepted abstracts are due by April 10, 2017.

Abstract Submissions Guidelines:

Abstract submissions must be no shorter than 300 words and must not exceed 600 words, and should be prepared for blind review.
In the email sent with the submission, the following seven items are required:

  1. Word count – 600 words maximum, 300 words minimum
  2. Author’s name
  3. Academic status (professor, unaffiliated, graduate student)
  4. Institutional affiliation (if any)
  5. Mailing address
  6. E-mail address
  7. The paper’s title

Paper Guidelines:
Papers submissions must not exceed a length of 3000 words and should be prepared for blind review. In the email sent with the paper submission, the following eight items are required:

  1. Word count – 3000 words maximum
  2. Author’s name
  3. Academic status (professor, unaffiliated, graduate student)
  4. Institutional affiliation (if any)
  5. Mailing address
  6. E-mail address
  7. The paper’s title
  8. An abstract – 200 words maximum

Submissions which do not include all required items items will be disqualified. Word count is due when full paper is submitted. No more than one submission by the same author will be considered.

Email a copy of your paper and/or abstract  as an attachment in rich text format to: [email protected] .
Each paper will have a commentator. Those interested in commenting should send a note to [email protected] by  March 30th, detailing availability and areas of interest. Persons whose papers are accepted will be expected to serve as commentators, if asked.
Copies of papers will be available by the end of April 2017. E-mails of authors will also be available for purposes of sending your commentary in advance of the conference.

After the conference, authors will be invited to submit their article to be published in a book or in an open access journal.
