As a part of the lecture series "EcoTechGender" the philosopher Barry Smith (University at Buffalo), who works in the fields of ontology and biomedical informatics, will give a talk on "Digital Environments".

Economics, Technology and Gender (EcoTechGender) are recognized as challenging and decisive factors of the future. The teaching and research area "EcoTechGender" is dedicated to the philosophical analysis of their interrelations.

Barry Smith studied mathematics and philosophy at the University of Oxford from 1970 to 1973. He obtained his PhD at the University of Manchester in 1976 and is currently a Julian Park distinguished professor of philosophy and adjunct professor of biomedical informatics, computer science and neurology at the University at Buffalo. His research focuses primarily on ontology and its applications in biomedical informatics. He has worked on projects related to electronic health records and terminologies in biology and medicine. His research has also addressed ontology-related activities in the fields of industry and military intelligence. Smith has received the Wolfgang Paul Award from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the Paolo Bozzi Prize for Ontology from the University of Turin for his ingenious and wide-reaching research.

The talk will be given in German.
