Program

In the first session on the day Susan Gilmartin, one of the seven founding members of Sligo School Project Association, will give an insight into the considerations that led to the establishement of a multi-denominational school in Sligo in 1988: “Back to the roots – the original core curriculum of Sligo School Project” Start: 11.00 h.

In the second session Jones Irwin from St. Patrick’s College (DCU) Dublin will be our guest speaker. Jones has been actively involved in the development of the new Ethics and Education curriculum strand in St Pat’s, which seeks to provide a multi-denominational option for teacher students. He will address the topic: “Teacher Education and the Forum recommendations.” Start: 13.00 hFor a little bit more on Jones Irwin follow this link.

As part of the symposium a presentation will be made by Carmel Morley, Deirdre McKeon and Frank Ludwig of a template for an overhauled core curriculum of Sligo School Project. They have reviewed the existing document which was designed in 1994. The results of their review will be up for discussion on the day. This session will take place at 15.00 h. The template which Carmel, Deirdre and Frank have put together canbe found by following this link.

Organisation

The Symposium is an event open to everyone. There is no fee.

It is possible to attend all sessions or also only parts of the entire program.

For each session there are 90 minute scheduled. The speakers will introduce the topic in a brief presentation of 15 min. after which the discussion of the topic will take place. Our experience from the last two years with this format is overwhelmingly positive.

Between the sessions there are breaks of 30 minutes. Coffee, tea and refreshments will be available on the day.

Childminding

We will organise childminding for the day on request. Therefore it is essential if you wish to bring your child with you on the day to contact us in advance. Please phone: 071 9150428 to register your child.
