CALL FOR PAPERS

2nd LATIN AMERICAN CONGRESS OF SCIENTIFIC PHILOSOPHY

OUTLINE OF THE CONFERENCE

This conference aims at promoting dialogue and theoretical interchange between scientists and philosophers on topics of mutual interest. Although they may be pursued as independent, separate disciplines, philosophy and science are deeply intertwined in many respects. Throughout the conference, participants are expected to address from different perspectives two general concerns: (1) Does philosophical practice have the means to answer questions arising from scientific fields of research? And (2), Do scientific findings stimulate philosophical investigation?

We welcome submissions from academics, fellow researchers and students who are broadly interested in the interface of science and philosophy. In particular, we highly welcome, on the one hand, submissions from science practitioners dealing with issues laying in the blurry boundaries of science and philosophy, whereas on the other, submissions from philosophers whose philosophical research is motivated by, and informed by, scientific theorizing.

We suggest understanding scientific philosophy in a broad sense, namely: the sort of philosophical practice that is carried out in the light of current best science, and the sort of science which pays attention to current debates in relevant philosophical arenas. Scientific philosophy includes philosophy of science, but is not exhausted by it, since it also involves other philosophical areas such as ethics, epistemology, metaphysics, history of science, and philosophical perspectives in the special sciences, among others.

We seek contributions in the following topics:

•          Logic, semantics, language and formal sciences

•          Ontology and epistemology of science

•          Metaphilosophy

•          Philosophy of science and technology

•          History of science

•          Philosophical perspectives in biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, and cognitive sciences, among others

•          Ethics, applied philosophy, experimental philosophy
