Details

The American Association of Philosophy Teachers (AAPT) and the APA Committee on the Teaching of Philosophy (CTP) invite proposals for a poster session at the 2018 Pacific Division meeting, March 28–April 1, in San Diego, CA.

Format:

We invite proposals for one of two different kinds of posters that will be featured at the session:

1) Posters by undergraduate students featuring the topic of an honors thesis, summer research project, or other independent research project

2) Posters by faculty or graduate students on research on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL)

Submissions:

Abstracts of no longer than 300 words, formatted for anonymous review (please put identifying information on a separate page), should be sent to Alexandra Bradner, alexandrabradner@gmail.com, no later than October 1, 2017.

Deadline for Abstracts: October 1, 2017

Note: Please be aware that in order to participate in this session, membership in the American Philosophical Association is required, and registration for the APA Pacific Division meeting may also be required. Please see the following web pages for more information:

• APA membership rates: http://www.apaonline.org/?page=memberinfo

• APA Pacific meeting registration: http://www.apaonline.org/group/pacific (information about the 2018 meeting is not yet available, but information about past meetings is linked there)

In addition, all participants in the session will need to pay for their travel and lodging. As this might be difficult for undergraduate students, we particularly encourage undergrads who live relatively close to San Diego, CA, to submit poster proposals. In addition, some universities have funding opportunities for undergraduate research, so undergrads are encouraged to see if that is the case at their institutions.

The AAPT-APA Teaching Hub is a series of interactive workshops and conversations designed specifically for philosophers and created to celebrate teaching within the context of the APA divisional meetings. Jointly organized by the APA Committee on the Teaching of Philosophy (CTP) and the American Association of Philosophy Teachers (AAPT), the Teaching Hub aims to offer a range of high-quality and inclusive development opportunities that address the teaching of philosophy at all levels, pre-college through graduate school.

For general information about the AAPT-APA Teaching Hub, please check out the AAPT website and Facebook page and the CTP website and Facebook page. For more specific information about the Teaching Hub at the 2018 Pacific APA meeting in San Diego, CA, please contact Mark Jensen (m.nathan.jensen@gmail.com).
