The 4th annual Conference on the Ethics of War and Peace will take place at West Point, New York on October 26-28. The theme of the conference will be "Revisting Walzer's Just and Unjust Wars, 40 Years On." As the traditional just war theory advocated by Walzer is increasingly under attack by revisionist theorists, religious ethicists, and those who question its relevance in an age of unconventional warfare, we will gather to engage with these criticisms, consider new readings of Walzer's work, and to move the discussion in new directions. Michael Walzer will be participating and the scheduled speakers are Lisa Cahill, James Dubik, Judith Lichtenberg, Vincent Lloyd, David Luban, Margaret Moore, Henry Shue, Jeremy Waldron, and Jennifer Welsh. In addition, there will 16 undergraduate presenters from USMA and Villanova University.
The Conference on the Ethics of War and Peace is a project of Villanova University and the United States Military Academy. The conference brings together undergraduate students, cadets, officers, scholars, and interested civilians to discuss urgent ethical issues pertaining to the use of military force. The conference aims to create a constructive and open discussion of matters of great public interest that bridges the boundaries between civilians and officers, undergraduates and professionals, theorists and practitioners.
This is a student event (e.g. a graduate conference).
