We invite papers on any philosophical topic in English or Spanish for our annual conference to be held in Houston, Texas. The submission deadline is January 15, 2018. Papers ought not exceed 3,000 words (excluding footnotes and references) and are to be presentable within 25 minutes. Each paper should be prepared for anonymous review and submitted electronically to:

When you submit your paper, please select the topic category that best fits your paper topic: Core Analytic, American Pragmatism, Continental Philosophy, History of Philosophy, Value, or Other.

There will be commentaries on each paper, and authors of accepted papers will be invited to comment on other papers.

Southwest Philosophical Studies Journal

The New Mexico – Texas Philosophical Society has a longstanding tradition of publishing outstanding contributions in its journal, Southwest Philosophical Studies. Submissions will be automatically considered for publication, unless otherwise indicated in the submission process. Journal editorial practices require a strict maximum limit of 3,000 words and endnotes in MLA format.

Awards

Submissions may be eligible for the following awards. Those wishing to be considered for an award should indicate so in the submission process:

(1)           HubertGriggsAlexanderMemorialAwardforanexcellentpaperbyaphilosopheratanycareerlevel on aesthetics, philosophy of language, symbolic form, Hispanic philosophy, classical philosophy, or philosophy’s role in the humanities. Award recipient will receive a $100.00 prize and publication in Southwest PhilosophicalStudies;

(2)           Houghton Dalrymple Memorial Award for an excellent paper by a graduate student or recent Ph.D. (withinthelastthreeyears)onepistemologyorHume.Awardrecipientwillreceivea$100.00prizeand publicationinSouthwestPhilosophicalStudies.

(3)           GlennC.JoyAwardsforthethreebestsubmissionsbyaphilosopheratanycareerlevelonanytopic. Firstprizeis$750,secondprizeis$250,andthirdprizeis$100.

Conference Location and Hotel Information

The conference will be held at The Whitehall Houston Hotel, 1700 Smith St., Houston, TX 77002. A limited number of rooms are available at the special conference rate of $109.00 per night (plus 17% occupancy tax) for the nights of April 5 – 7. Reservations can be made by calling 713-739-8800 and stating that you are part of the New Mexico Texas Philosophical Society. Booking must be completed at least two weeks in advance of the conference to receive the discounted rate.

Registration and Fees

Conference registration fees are paid according to the schedule below. Presenters should arrange for payment to be forwarded to the Treasurer before March 23, 2017. Conference participants may pay the registration fee via a link to paypal.com, which will be available on the Society’s website, http://nmtx.org. Check or cash only accepted at the conference. Payments made at the conference will only be accepted from the hours of 9am-12noon, on either Friday April 6th or Saturday, April 7th.
