Details

The symposium is thought as a moment of reflection/celebration of philosophy and its sister disciplines. Faculty, and Alumni from the community colleges located in NJ are invited to actively participate.

Proposal in all relevant areas of Philosophy are welcomed.

Please Submit your proposal (Pdf or Doc) before February 18th.

Submitters will be notified by March 1st.

Submission Guidelines:
Submissions can be of two kinds:

Free Submission

Submissions are accepted in any area of Philosophy and should be between 2000 and 4000 words. The Submitter(s) will be expected to present for 30 minutes (20 min actual presentation + 10 minutes for discussion).

Panel Submission

Submissions are accepted for the Following pre-created panels:

1. Philosophy and Science: The quest for knowledge (the relationship between philosophy and science will be analyzed by the panel. The following and similar topic will be taken in consideration for this panel: Is philosophical knowledge similar to scientific knowledge? does science need a philosophical foundation or viceversa? What is a scientific Fact or a scientific theory? Is the aim of science truth?).

 2. What is History? A Discussion about Facts, Myths, Tales and Documents (The following and similar topic will be taken in consideration for this panel: Is there a difference between a Tale and a Document? What makes a Myth a Myth and an Historical Fact a Fact? What kind of Knowledge is given by history?).

3. What is a Work of Art? How to distinguish a work of Art from non-artistic expressions (The following and similar topic will be taken in consideration for this panel: what is beauty? What is Art? Are there any objective parameteres to establish what make art art?).

Submissions should be between 1000 and 3000 words. The accepted submitter will be allotted 15 Minutes to present + another 15 Minutes to interact with the other members of the panel and the Audience.

Please notice that the space on this panels is limited, therefore among the accepted submissions we will rigorously follow a first come first serve method of acceptance.
