The Clinical Ethics Immersion at the John J. Lynch MD Center for Ethics at MedStar Washington Hospital Center is the original experiential and simulation-based education program designed for professionals who want to advance their practice in clinical ethics. The Immersion is an intensive 4 day course for physicians, nurses, social workers, and other health care professionals seeking an in-depth, hands-on, clinical bioethics experience. The John J. Lynch MD Center for Ethics is one of the oldest, elite clinical ethics programs in the country. The Immersion helps participants better understand the various and complex ways by which clinicians work together with clinical ethicists and members of their ethics committee to continually improve the care of their hospitalized patients.
Participants will have the opportunity to round with clinical ethicists in intensive care units, respond to actual case consultations as they arise, simulate a family meeting, develop skills in appropriate chart notating, and engage in discussions on both clinical ethics methods and practice with interdisciplinary program faculty. In addition, participants will experience simulated ethics consultations in MedStar’s state-of- the-art Simulation Training & Education Lab.
The Immersion is hosted by staff of the Center for Ethics. For more information, contact Program Director Kahlia Kéita, at (202) 877-0248 or [email protected].
