CALL FOR SURVEY PARTICIPANTS

Emotion Researchers and Non-Emotion Philosophy Researchers

This survey study is being conducted by Dr. Cecilea Mun (principal investigator, adjunct assistant professor, Department of Humanities, Bowling Green State University - Firelands) and Julia Edwards (co-investigator, Ph.D. candidate, School of Health and Related Research, University of Sheffield). You received a call for participants through an emotion research network or a general philosophy research network. We are conducting an area survey study of the philosophy of emotion, which requires us to collect information from researchers who work within the area of philosophy of emotion AND those who work outside the area of philosophy of emotion, in any discipline. For the purpose of this study, we are defining “researcher” as someone who is at least 18 years of age and who conducts scholarly work in pursuit of academic publishing. If you are a researcher, we would appreciate your help by completing this survey regardless of whether or not you conduct research in the area of philosophy of emotion. You may be asked anywhere from 33 to 47 questions, and a single survey attempt should take no more than 30-45 minutes, contingent on your responses.

ABOUT THE STUDY: We are conducting an area survey study of the philosophy of emotion. We are interested in answering the following questions:

1) Whether or not there are any significant correlations between various characteristics of philosophers of emotion (such as demographic information), their beliefs about emotions, and their research, in comparison with both emotion researchers and non-emotion researchers across the disciplines;

2) What the general beliefs and interests are of philosophers of emotion, in comparison with both emotion researchers and non-emotion researchers across the disciplines, including beliefs about whether emotions are natural kinds, socially constructed, objective kinds, subjective kinds, and associated with various properties;

3) Whether there are any significant correlations between the various beliefs about emotion and emotions that are held by those who relate their research to the area of philosophy of emotion and the various approaches that these researchers use in their study of emotion or emotions.
