The Departments of Philosophy at the University of St Andrews are pleased to announce a one-day conference on Philosophy in Schools (teaching philosophy to children and young adults), to be held in St Salvators Quad at the University of St Andrews on Saturday 3 November, 2012.

This conference is open to all educators and educationalists, and interested members of the public, and will be of particular interest to nursery, primary and secondary school teachers, who are, or wish to be, involved in teaching philosophy at any level.

The confirmed speakers are:

Peter Worley, CEO and co-founder of The Philosophy Foundation, author of The If Machine: Philosophical Enquiry in the Classroom.

Joanna Haynes, Associate Professor in Education at Plymouth University, author of Children as Philosophers and co-author of Storywise: Thinking through Stories, and Picturebooks, Pedagogy and Philosophy.

Berys Gaut, Professor of Philosophy, St Andrews; co-author of Philosophy for Young Children: A Practical Guide.

Morag Gaut, teacher at Anstruther Primary School and St Andrews Nursery, Fife; co-author of Philosophy for Young Children: A Practical Guide.

Lisa Jones, Senior Teaching Fellow, St Andrews, founder of St Andrews POPS (Philosophy Outreach Programme: Schools)

Scott Duncan, RMPS and Philosophy teacher at Waid Academy, Fife, and Development Officer for Education Scotland.
