Writing Sample Workshop – Saturday, November 16th, 2019

About the Workshop

The Graduate Philosophical Association at the University of Oklahoma is pleased to host a Writing Sample Workshop on Saturday, November 16th, 2019. This workshop is designed specifically for students who are applying to PhD programs in Philosophy this year to receive feedback on their writing samples in a positive and welcoming environment. Instead of a traditional keynote speaker, we will host a Faculty Panel on “Writing Graduate Level Philosophy.” Several faculty members of the Philosophy Department at the University of Oklahoma will lead an informal discussion and Q&A session on strategies to improve writing that are tailored for philosophy graduate students.

Submission Guidelines

To be considered for acceptance to the Writing Sample Workshop, please submit a Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) or Adobe PDF (.pdf) document to [email protected]

  • Name

  • Contact information (preferred email address)

  • Current school and program (if applicable)

  • Abstract of project (between 100-500 words)

The abstracts will be anonymized for our selection procedures. Priority will be given to projects that the graduate philosophical community at the University of Oklahoma is especially well-equipped to provide useful feedback about - for example projects in epistemology, metaphysics, ethics, philosophy of religion, philosophy of art, and history of ancient Greek and ancient Chinese philosophy.

The Philosophy Department is unable to cover travel expenses but will work with accepted participants to find reasonable accommodations for the duration of the workshop.

The submission deadline is October 18th, 2019. If you have any questions, please [email protected] one of our Workshop Coordinators: Mark  Taylor ([email protected]) and Conor McMahon ([email protected]).
