Details

This meeting links the CamPoS (Cambridge Philosophy of Science) group and the Cambridge Pragmatism project to the ESF-funded network, Philosophy of Science in a European Perspective. The conference will explore changing conceptions of the relation between philosophy and the special sciences over the past century. We are interested in how, as philosophers of science in a European context, we got to where we are now; and in how we should be thinking about where we go next, in the evolving relationship between science and philosophy.

Programme

  1. Six mini-symposia:

  • Philosophy and Physics: Jeremy Butterfield (Trinity College, Cambridge) + Markus Arndt (University of Vienna).
  • Philosophy and Biology: Tim Lewens (HPS, Cambridge) + Paul Griffiths (Exeter/Sydney).
