Call For Papers: Workshop on the Philosophy of Smell, May 7-8, 2020
The Department of Philosophy at the University of Nevada, Reno will be hosting a workshop on the Philosophy of Smell on May 7-8, 2020. The workshop will bring together established and early career philosophers working on smell with the hope of initiating a series of workshops in the coming years.
Our keynote speaker will be Barry Smith (Institute of Philosophy, University of London)
Invited speakers include:
Solveig Aasen (University of Oslo & University of Agder)
Ann-Sophie Barwich (Indiana University Bloomington)
Clare Batty (University of Kentucky)
Andreas Keller (Rockefeller University)
Additionally, the workshop will include a small number of contributed presentations from upcoming philosophers of smell. We invite graduate students, post-docs, and early career researchers (within 5 years of attaining their PhD) to submit short high-quality papers for presentation in any area of philosophy related to smell, olfaction, or flavor.
Those selected for presentations will be provided with accommodation and a small travel fund.
Submission Deadline: Monday, January 20th, 2020.
Please submit two separate documents. The first (prepared for blind review) should include the title, a 400-600 word abstract, and a 3000 word paper. Papers should be suitable for a 30 minute presentation. In addition, please prepare a cover sheet with the following information:
