Topic areas

There will be four papers. Two will be by our confirmed keynote speakers:

  • Roger Crisp (Oxford)
  • Fiona Woollard (Southampton)

Another two will be selected from this call for abstracts.

Please consider submitting an anonymous abstract if you have work relevant to Brad Hooker's interests, most importantly: Rule-consequentialist ethics, Fairness, Moral Desert, Needs, Personal Good, and History of Twentieth Century Moral Philosophy.

Please submit an anonymous 500-1000 word abstract for a 45 minute talk, preferably making clear how the paper's topic relates to the work of Brad Hooker.

Submit your abstract by email to as an anonymous (Word or PDF) attachment, and please include the title of your paper in the body of the email too so that we can match papers to abstracts. We particularly welcome papers from graduate students and others without permanent philosophical employment--please mention in your email if you fall into this category.

Note that we expect to have commenters for the talks, so if accepted you should expect to have a written version of the paper available at least two weeks in advance, in early May. Papers from this event will be published in a special issue of 'Ratio', though speakers will have many months to revise their papers before submitting to the journal.

All questions about submissions should be emailed to the organisers, Luke Elson and Charlotte Newey. You can reach them at for more information.
