CFP: Puncta: Journal of Critical Phenomenology

Submission deadline: May 30, 2020

Details

Puncta: Journal of Critical Phenomenology is now accepting submissions on a rolling basis.

We invite submissions that directly apply phenomenology to the analysis of socio-political phenomena, that reflect on the methods of critical phenomenology or what it means for phenomenology to critique, or that engage with the philosophical tradition of phenomenology more broadly, either through its silences or its canonical figures. We hope to facilitate an ongoing critical turn in phenomenology and to cultivate a space in which phenomenological analysis responds to and confronts bigotry, misogyny, racism, xenophobia, refugee crises, the growing need for prison reform, racialized police violence, climate change, and similar structural conditions of the experience of so many.

In addition to phenomenological descriptions and critiques of the above subjects, we welcome articles on topics that may include but are not limited to:

  • What is critical phenomenology, and what can the role of critical phenomenology or critical phenomenologies be in our times?
  • How might critical phenomenology help us think through political events, and how does such an analysis invite us to reflect upon the phenomenological method?
  • How can phenomenology facilitate the resistance of authoritarianism?
  • Can critical phenomenology help us navigate the relationship between philosophy as an academic discipline & its practical implications, and between theory & praxis? If so, how?
  • What is the role of phenomenology in a so-called “post-truth” or “post-fact” world?
  • What is the significance of phenomenology for, e.g., socio-political philosophy or theory, queer theory, ethics, decolonialism, disability studies, critical race theory, and feminism?

Submissions should be no longer than 8000 words, inclusive of notes and works cited, and prepared for anonymous review. Submissions should be accompanied by an abstract between 150 and 200 words. Submissions should be submitted at [email protected]. General questions about the journal should be directed to [email protected]. Please note that any submission received before the submission deadline will not be reviewed until after the deadline.
