Special Issue of the Epistemology and Philosophy of Science journal (https://journal.iphras.ru):

"After Post-Positivism. Towards the 100th Anniversary of Thomas Kuhn and Imre Lakatos" (former title: "On the Philosophy of Thomas Kuhn and Imre Lakatos")

2022 marks the 100th anniversary of Thomas Kuhn and Imre Lakatos, prominent 20th century scholars of science and trend-setters. Although having originated in specific socio-political and epistemological context, their ideas keep their relevance ever since: they continue to frame the discussions and define the conceptual language of social and historical studies of science and of philosophy in general.

In this issue, we want to present contemporary challenges and prospects for philosophy of science and STS at least partly inspired by Kuhn and Lakatos’ ideas, including methodological, historical and sociological approaches to science.

Among the authors of the issue are Joseph Agassi, Otávio Bueno, Harry Collins, Robert Evans, Andrew Feenberg, Steve Fuller, Uwe Hoßfeld, Paul Hoyningen-Huene, Georgy Levit, and William Lynch.

We invite abstracts for further submissions focusing on questions that include, but are not limited to:

  • Critical rationalism vs Historical school in HPS as a basic controversy of the post-positivist movement
  • Kuhn and Lakatos on the history of science: historical/epistemological consequences
  • The value of rational criticism and rational conservatism in science
  • Theory-ladenness: limits of the theory-observation dualism
  • Externalism vs internalism: new prospects
  • Paradigm and scientific research programme: holistic networks
  • Revolution and evolution in knowledge and scientific community
  • Post-positivist roots of realism-relativism debates
  • Ways of coping with the incommensurability
  • SSK as resulting from Kuhn-Lakatos controversy
  • Scientific community, normativity and ethos
