In recent years\, we have witnessed a resurgence of resistance to resistance: increasing attacks on academic freedom\, book bans\, the politicization of public education\, the undermining of scientific and social consensus\, and the erosion of democratic processes. At the same time\, we have also seen powerful and creative acts of dissent\, disruption\, and defiance.&nbsp\;
\n
This conference aims to explore the complexities of resistance\; its moral and political dimensions\, its philosophical foundations\, its practical applications\, and its presence across disciplines. We welcome presentations that engage with the idea of resistance from a wide range of perspectives\, including (but not limited to):&nbsp\;
\n
\n
The ethics and aesthetics of resistance&nbsp\;
\n
Academic freedom\, censorship\, and public discourse&nbsp\;
\n
Environmental and energy justice&nbsp\;
\n
Embodiment\, vulnerability\, and radical empathy&nbsp\;
\n
Race\, gender\, and the politics of refusal&nbsp\;
\n
Histories of protest and social movements&nbsp\;
\n
Civil disobedience and nonviolent action&nbsp\;
\n
Political and ethical theory&nbsp\;
\n
Resistance in art\, literature\, media\, and public space&nbsp\;
\n
The epistemology of dissent and silencing&nbsp\;
\n
\n
Interdisciplinary approaches to systems change and disruption&nbsp\;
\n
This year&rsquo\;s keynote speakers\, Dr. George Yancy (Emory University) and Dr. Tony Reames (University of Michigan)\, bring distinct yet complementary insights to our shared exploration of resistance: from the embodied and existential urgency of anti-racist public philosophy\, to the pursuit of equity in energy access and environmental policy.&nbsp\;
\n
We welcome proposals from:&nbsp\;
\n
\n
High school\, undergraduate\, and graduate students&nbsp\;
\n
Faculty and independent scholars&nbsp\;
\n
Practitioners\, activists\, and community leaders&nbsp\;
\n
\n
Researchers and students from fields such as philosophy\, law\, political science\, history\, public policy\, environmental studies\, religious studies\, education\, social science\, health\, the arts\, and beyond.&nbsp\;
\n
Individual and joint presentations are welcome\; however\, each presenter must register separately. DESCRIPTION:
This conference will provide an opportunity for Undergraduates to come and give a presentation of aspects of their work that they feel touch the sides of both Continental and Analytic philosophy. The &lsquo\;problem-oriented&rsquo\; style of Analytic philosophy has encouraged a renewed engagement with Continental approaches to certain philosophical issues. Alongside this\, recent trends in continental philosophy takes very seriously science\, mathematics\, and naturalism\, creating space for dialogue with analytic philosophy of science and metaphysics. The two &lsquo\;traditions&rsquo\; have common historical ancestors and touch on many of the same problems\, creating a fruitful space to explore attitudes to interpretation of the history of philosophy\, as well as contemporary debates.

DESCRIPTION:
The Group of Studies in Neurophilosophy (GENF)\, affiliated with the Federal University of Fronteira Sul (UFFS)\, has the honor of inviting researchers\, faculty\, and undergraduate and graduate students to its 1st UFFS International Congress on Neurophilosophy: Neurophilosophy\, after 40 years\, to be held in a hybrid format on May 11\, 12\, 13\, and 14\, 2026. This year\, we celebrate four decades since the 1986 publication of Patricia Churchland's book Neurophilosophy: Toward a Unified Science of the Mind-Brain\, widely recognized as the foundational point of Neurophilosophy. Since then\, Neurophilosophy has established itself as a field of study that seeks a unified science of the mind-brain\, involving disciplines such as neuroscience\, philosophy\, computing\, psychology\, and psychiatry. Thus\, the 1st UFFS International Congress on Neurophilosophy: Neurophilosophy\, after 40 years\, aims to reflect on the advances\, challenges\, and future of trans- and interdisciplinarity in the study of the mind-brain over these 40 years\, with special focus on Neurophilosophy in Brazil.
\n
KEYNOTE SPEAKERS:
\n
Cesar Schirmer dos Santos (UFSM)
\n
Federico Burdman (UAH)
\n
Jonas Gon&ccedil\;alves Coelho (UNESP)
\n
Osvaldo Pessoa Jr. (USP)
\n
Patr&iacute\;cia Fanaya (UNB)
\n
Preston Stovall (UHK)
\n
Serdal T&uuml\;mkaya (IHU)
\n
Sergio Barberis (UBA)
\n
Sofia In&ecirc\;s Stein (USP)
\n
Steven Gouveia (UPORTO)
\n
Zuleide Ign&aacute\;cio (UFFS)
\n\n\n
CALL FOR ABSTRACTS:&nbsp\;
\n
&bull\; Submission Period: January 23 to February 28\, 2026.
\n
&bull\; Notification Acceptance: By March 30.
\n
&bull\; Event Dates: May 11-14.
\n
&bull\; Access: Online\, via Google Meet. Boundaries shape how we organize political life\, define belonging\, and react to difference. DESCRIPTION:
In his recent book The Uses of Idolatry (OUP 2024)\, William T. Cavanaugh argues that worship has not disappeared from our supposedly &laquo\;secular&raquo\; world\, but has merely changed its target. Instead of God\, created things and structures are worshipped. Cavanaugh examines modern forms of idolatry\, such as nationalism and consumer culture\, and shows how people become dominated by their own creations. Drawing on insights from history\, theology\, philosophy\, political science\, sociology and cultural studies\, the book recognizes idolatry as more than merely a &laquo\;religious&raquo\; phenomenon and views the critique of idolatry as a genuinely interdisciplinary project with the aim of revealing how and why we sacrifice ourselves and others to gods of our own design. The fo&chi\;s Summer School 2026 offers an opportunity to discuss these provocative theses and approaches with the author and to explore their consequences for our view of ourselves\, our culture and our academic work.
\n
The Summer School is designed for advanced undergraduate\, graduate\, and doctoral students in all disciplines\, willing to engage in in-depth study of philosophical\, intellectual-historical\, and theological developments.
