DESCRIPTION:
We are very pleased to announce that the Summer School&nbsp\;&lsquo\;Moral Progress and Moral Change&rsquo\;&nbsp\;will take place from&nbsp\;June 16 &ndash\; 18 2026&nbsp\;at the&nbsp\;Institute of Philosophy in Zagreb.
\n
The program is designed for a maximum of 20 PhD candidates\, advanced MA students\, or early career researchers working in the philosophy of moral progress and moral change broadly construed. Our summer school will encompass debates about the normative criteria of moral progress\, the empirical case for ongoing moral regress\, the relationship between social identities and social norm change\, and the relationship between technological and moral change.
\n
The summer school will feature keynotes from:
\n
&bull\; Agnes Tam (University of Calgary)
\n
&bull\; Victor Kumar (Boston University)
\n
&bull\; John Danaher (University of Galway)
\n
In addition to keynote lectures and student presentations\, we will also have a few presentations on moral progress and moral change from scholars in the regional research community. However\, our key focus is on allowing plenty of time for participants to discuss issues related to the philosophy of moral progress and moral change and make fruitful research connections among a group of scholars with related interests.
\n
How to apply: Our program has space for a limited number of student presentations (20 mins talk\, followed by 10 mins Q&amp\;A). If you would like to present at the Summer School\, please send an anonymised abstract of up to 500 words to Mia Biturajac at&nbsp\;mbiturajac@ifzg.hr&nbsp\;by&nbsp\;12 April 2026. In the body of your email\, please include your name and your institution. Note that it is not necessary to present in order to attend.
\n
If you have any additional questions\, you can also contact Mia via the email address above.
\n
The attendance fee is&nbsp\;&euro\;100. Our three-day program will include lunch each day\, and a dinner one evening to which all participants are invited.
\n
You can find more information on our website:&nbsp\;https://mpmc.ifzg.hr/
\n
This Summer School is supported by the Institute of Philosophy\, and by the Croatian Science Foundation-funded projects&nbsp\;MoPIC&nbsp\;and&nbsp\;AIAJ.
\n
Best wishes from the Summer School Organising Committee\, Mia Biturajac\, Charlie Blunden\, Petar Bodlović\, Nino Kadić\, Marco Tassella\, Monika Zeba

DESCRIPTION:
THE INTERNATIONAL PHILOSOPHICAL CONFERENCE
\n
Ideal Meanings and Real Contents: The Transcending Ability of Mind and Language
\n
Zagreb\, Institute of Philosophy
\n
November 5th&ndash\; 7th\, 2026
\n
CALL FOR PAPERS
\n
One of the hallmarks of modern philosophy is its treatment of meanings &ndash\; both of thoughts and linguistic (symbolic) expressions &ndash\; as &ldquo\;ideal&rdquo\; or &ldquo\;abstract\,&rdquo\; in contrast to the &ldquo\;real&rdquo\; or &ldquo\;concrete&rdquo\; character of entities that convey them. Although this view emerged already in the early 19th century\, most notably in Bolzano&rsquo\;s work\, it was articulated most clearly by Frege and became central to his &ldquo\;antipsychologistic&rdquo\; stance &ndash\; a programmatic position adopted by many German speaking philosophers around 1900. While enthusiasm for ideal meanings declined in the decades to follow\, both phenomenologically and analytically minded thinkers retained a deep interest in the objectifying capacity of language and consciousness. Following Brentano\, they started to address this capacity by a common label &ndash\; intentionality. Yet the shared term conceals important differences: for instance\, it has become customary to treat linguistic meanings and the meaningfulness of our experiences as distinct phenomena\, each giving rise to specialized fields of inquiry. The conference Ideal Meanings and Real Contents: The Transcending Ability of Mind and Language aims to trace these diverse approaches to their common philosophical roots and to consider the current controversies from a broader perspective. We therefore invite paper proposals addressing both historical interpretations and contemporary debates on intentionality across disciplines such as philosophy of mind\, philosophy of language\, logic\, metaphysics\, epistemology\, and cognitive science.
\n
Confirmed keynote speakers: - Johannes Brandl (University of Salzburg) - Katalin Farkas (Central European University\, Vienna) - Srećko Kovač (Institute of Philosophy\, Zagreb) - Alberto Voltolini (University of Turin)
\n
Official language of the conference is English.
\n
Deadline: Those interested to present a paper\, should submit their 200 to 400 words abstract in English no later than August 1\, 2026 to: davor@ifzg.hr
\n
Conference fee is 100 euros. Those whose abstracts are accepted for the conference presentation should pay the fee no later than September 15\, 2026.
\n
Organising committee: Gabriela Ba&scaron\;ić Hanžek (University of Split)\, Du&scaron\;an Dožudić (Institute of Philosophy\, Zagreb)\, Ljudevit Hanžek (University of Split)\, Tomislav Janović (University of Zagreb)\, Davor Pećnjak (Institute of Philosophy\, Zagreb)\, Ivan Restović (Institute of Philosophy\, Zagreb)\, Dario &Scaron\;karica (Institute of Philosophy\, Zagreb/University of Split)
