DESCRIPTION:
The Horizons of Experience:&nbsp\;
\n
A Husserlian Exploration
\n
&nbsp\;
\n
BSP Online Course
\n
Registration open now
\n\n
The aim of this course is to introduce students to the notion of an intentional horizon\, as it is first developed in the works of Edmund Husserl\, alongside some programmatic and methodological ideas concerning how to carry out phenomenology as a form of what I will call &lsquo\;horizonal analysis&rsquo\;. We will then consider in detail three cases in which the notion of an intentional horizon can be put to work: First\, visual experience as of complete three-dimensional objects\, second cases of haptic touch\, and a finally emotional experience.
\n\n
The course will draw throughout on the classical phenomenologists\, principally Husserl\, Sartre\, Merleau-Ponty\, and Scheler. However\, there will also be significant links to consonant issues in contemporary philosophy of perception and mind\; indeed it will be shown that the notion of an intentional horizon can provide interesting resolutions to long-standing debates and issues in the contemporary philosophy. The result will be a rich and rewarding exploration of this exciting but often under-researched and misunderstood notion.
\n\n
BSP Online courses focus on phenomenological thinkers or topics and are taught by experts in the field. The sessions last 1.5 hours and are held once a week online\, over consecutive weeks. This will include a lecture and time for discussion / Q&amp\;A. Reading materials or any other course materials will be provided in advance. Catch-up recordings are available in case anyone misses any sessions!
\n\n
Course Leader: Jonathan Mitchell (Cardiff University)
\n
Sessions: 4 sessions over 4 weeks
\n
Dates: 4 / 11 / 18 / 25 October &ndash\; weekly &ndash\; Sundays
\n
Time: 7:00&ndash\;8:30pm UK time
\n
Location: Online (Teams)
\n\n
Find out some more about the BSP Online Course &ndash\; The Horizons of Experience: A Husserlian Exploration
\n
