Details

This two-day conference, being held on February 27 and 28, 2015, will involve the presentation of several (between 10-14) papers by graduate students. The conference will feature keynote speeches from by Distinguished Professor Dr. Don Ihde (Stony Brook University), and Canadian Research Chair in Bioethics and Philosophy, Dr. Francoise Baylis (Dalhousie University).

Entitled “Philosophy in Practice,” the purpose of this event is to emphasize the ways in which philosophy can help us understand current practical concerns in new and meaningful ways. That is, our conference intends to highlight ‘applied philosophy’ and detract from the misleading view of philosophy as an abstract field of study. By keeping this theme as inclusive possible, we hope to bring together philosophers from all areas and traditions of philosophy, as well as to demonstrate the ways in which philosophy can inform and be informed by other disciplines.
