13.6.2022, 4 pm, guest lecture by Giusppe di Cesare and Giada Lombardi, Institute of Technology (IIT) Genoa/Parma, CONTACT lab, on "Affective Perception and Design"

AMD / FB Design der Hochschule Fresenius, Alte Rabenstrasse 1, 20148 Hamburg, Room 1.01 (1. floor), Zoom-Link possible after registration and consent to video recording

One drawing may seem light and dance-like, the other static and solid. But one thing is true for both: the drawings do not actually move. This is the starting point for far-reaching research questions that have not yet been clarified: does human perception underlie "aliveness"? It makes sense that we perceive gestures as alive. But does this also apply to language, sounds and written signs as well as to the observation of architecture, objects and pictures? What conclusions can be drawn from this for design?

This is where the joint project comes in: What are the prerequisites for expressive communication about design? On which psychological level is it located? Researchers working in Parma (Italy) in the group around the neuroscientist Giacomo Rizzolatti, discoverer of mirror neurons, and in the CONTACT Unit at the Italian Institute of Technology of Genoa (Italy) will present their studies. In their research, they refer, among other things, to the "vitality forms" of the famous developmental psychologist and infant researcher Daniel N. Stern. During their talk, they will provide a presentation moving from neuroscience to robotics. Moreover, they will introduce the joint project discussing how also art could be considered an expression of vitality forms.

Joint research project: Prof. Dr. Petra Leutner, AMD Hamburg / FB Design www.amdnet.de: [email protected], Dr. Martina Sauer, Institute for Image and Cultural Philosophy: https://www.bildphilosophie.de/en-gb, Dr. Giuseppe di Cesare, Institute of Technology (IIT) Genoa/Parma and PhD student Giada Lombardi, Institute of Technology (IIT) Genoa/Parma: [email protected], both CONTACT lab: https://whisperproject.eu/team-lab-robot.
