Details

Where are philosophical hermeneutics and phenomenology in the 21st century, and where are they going? Contemporary research within hermeneutics and phenomenology are to a great extent conducted by taking recourse to tradition and authority. Today’s hermeneuticians and phenomenologists lose themselves in minutiae, justify their specialized positions by drawing out perspectives from the authorities in the fields and avoid the systematic questions. Where are hermeneutics and phenomenology today? What are their prospects and potential? What is their raison d’être? The goal of the conference is to gain a clearer systematic view of these questions. We encourage the participants to share their vision of the futures of these disciplines. What we are less interested in is historical exegesis of figures in the history of hermeneutics and phenomenology. Contributions could revolve around the following questions:

What are the pertinent questions and problems of hermeneutics and phenomenology today?

What is the relation between hermeneutics and phenomenology from a systematic perspective?

What should a manifesto for the future of these disciplines look like?

What is the systematic contribution of hermeneutics and phenomenology respectively to contemporary philosophy?
