Details

The aim of the conference is to bring together scholars working in philosophy of art and aesthetics, literary theory, literary studies, cultural studies and other domains dedicated to the study of literature, with the aim of honoring the immense impact that Peter Lamarque and Stein Haugom Olsen, in their individual and joint writings, had on the field of literary aesthetics and contemporary philosophy of literature. The topics include, but are not limited to, the question of definition, meaning and value of literature and various literary genres; literary canon; interpretation of literary works; fiction and non-fiction; relation of fiction and literature; questions of expression; philosophy of poetry; narration; ontology of literature; emotional reactions to literature; paradox of fiction; fictional characters; literature and other forms of art; literature, truth and knowledge; literature and ethics; the question of philosophical aspects of literature, and the like. We are also interested in establishing a dialogue between literary theorists and philosophers and to discuss methodological advantages and disadvantages of various approaches to literature. In addition, we plan to organize a roundtable dedicated to the current status of literature in education and society, with the aim of promoting the values of the humanities and the overall appreciation of literature.

We invite submissions for 30 minute presentations, followed by 15 minutes of Q&A. If you are interested in presenting your work, please send the title and the abstract of max. 300 words by September 10th 2022 to Iris Vidmar Jovanović ([email protected]). Notification of acceptance will be sent out by September 15th. There is no conference fee. All the papers presented at the conference are eligible for publication in the special issue of Croatian Journal of Philosophy.
