Special Issue Information

Dear colleagues,

The International Journal of Applied Philosophy invites submissions for a special issue focusing on the ethical and philosophical issues regarding space travel and extraterrestrial colonisation. We welcome submissions including academic articles, reply and commentary papers, as well as literature reviews.

This Symposium Issue aims to contribute to this ongoing discourse by exploring the issues central to the debate on space travel and colonisation. Topics of interest include but are not limited to:

·       Bioethical issues of space travel and colonisation

·       Reproductive concerns of space travel and colonisation

·       Ethical issues of generational ships and other multi-generational modalities of space travel

·       Automation vs. human space travel

Guidelines for Submissions

submissions should be sent in electronic format. All manuscripts should be sent to the guest editor(s) at the address below.

[email protected]

Manuscripts should be submitted in Word format (.docx, .doc, .rtf). Pages should be double-spaced throughout, with wide margins. Notes should appear at the end of the manuscript and also be double-spaced. All submissions should include an abstract (100—150 words) and up to 5 keywords. Manuscripts sent via post should include two non-returnable print copies as well as the author's e-mail address. The journal publishes articles of varying lengths but accepted papers typically range from 6000-7000 words. Submitted manuscripts are subject to peer-review.

A complete submission includes a cover letter and an appropriately formatted original manuscript. The cover email or letter should include:

  • Author(s) names and institutional affiliations
  • Contact information for one author, including email address and telephone number
  • Confirmation that the manuscript is not currently under consideration by any other publication

Any reasonable formatting style for notes and references is fine at the time of submission. If the manuscript is accepted for publication, the author must bring it into line with the journal's style (The Chicago Manual of Style).

Authors should provide original source files for any charts or graphs in the manuscript. Please avoid the use of charts or graphs copied from websites as these may not be suitable for reproduction in print format.

Authors should submit a brief statement of their background, which will be published along with their manuscript if accepted. Contributors should keep copies of all materials submitted.
