Details

The 26th annual Pacific University Undergraduate Philosophy Conference will be held April 28th-29th, 2023. The purpose of this conference is to provide a forum for the presentation of philosophical work of undergraduates to their peers. Papers are required to be of philosophical content, but there are no specific restrictions on subject matter within the arena of philosophical discussion itself. Papers should be approximately 3000 words (10-12 pages). Electronic submissions are required and should be sent to Ian O'Loughlin at [email protected] by February 1st, 2023. Submissions should include both the full paper and an abstract of no more than 200 words.  Please send your paper, prepared for blind review, as an email attachment.  The attachment should be a single word document with title, abstract, paper, and bibliography.  In the body of the email, please include the title of your paper, your name, and your university.  Selected papers from the conference will be published in the International Journal of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities.

This is strictly an undergraduate conference, with only undergraduates allowed on the conference program. The single exception is the keynote speaker. Past keynotes speakers have included: Paul Churchland, Hilary Putnam, John Searle, Keith Lehrer, Catherine Elgin, John Perry, Hubert Dreyfus, Jerry Fodor, Alvin Plantinga, Cora Diamond, James Sterba, Peter Kivy, Walter Sinnott-Armstrong, Daniel Dennett, Elliott Sober, Alva Noë, L.A. Paul, Susan Haack, and John Martin Fischer. This year’s keynote talk will be by Manuel Vargas.

For further information, contact Ian O’Loughlin via email ([email protected]).
