Details

This conference offers PhD candidates within and outside philosophy working on topics related to political theory (broadly conceived) the opportunity to present their research in a vibrant intellectual environment. Each session will give those presenting a chance to receive feedback from a dedicated discussant, after which each author will engage in an extensive question and answer period with the faculty and PhD students from the University of Amsterdam and the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, as well as the keynote speakers, and other participants of the conference.

Each day of the conference will feature a presentation by one of our keynote speakers, as well as an opportunity for Q&A. We are excited to announce that Fabienne Peter has confirmed that she will be our keynote speaker on May 30th. The keynote for May 31st will be announced shortly.

Apart from offering the opportunity to reflect on various topics in political theory, the conference is an opportunity to build a community and a network among PhD candidates and postdocs interested in interdisciplinary research. The conference aims to create an intellectually stimulating environment in which PhD candidates and postdocs can interact with their peers from around the world who share this interest.

Abstract submission deadline: March 6th, 2023

Applicants will be notified of acceptance by March 31st, 2023

Format: Abstracts must be between 500 and 1000 words, excluding footnotes and bibliography. Please format your extended abstracts for anonymous review, excluding any personal and institutional information. If your abstract is selected for the conference, we will not be requiring you to submit a full paper. However, we strongly encourage selected presenters to provide a hand out.

How to submit: Please email your abstracts as a .pdf or .docx file to [email protected]

Costs: Attending the conference will cost €30 for members of the OZSW (The Dutch research school for philosophy) and €40 for non-members. This helps us to cover the cost of providing meals on both days of the conference, as well as helping to fund the conference dinner. Once your abstract has been accepted, you will receive information about payment.

Credits: For this course PhD students can earn a certificate from the OZSW after successful completion. Successfully presenting your paper at the conference will earn you 2,5 ECTS. Please note, however, that the OZSW is not accredited to reward students with credits/ECTS directly. The study load is mentioned on the certificate, which can usually be exchanged for ‘real’ credits (ECTS) at your home university. For more info please see https://www.ozsw.nl/request-certificate/.

Funding: Regrettably we are unable to provide any funding for travel or accommodation.

Contact: Please contact [email protected] for further information or any questions you may have.
