Balkan Analytic Forum
(October 19-22, 2023 University of Belgrade, Serbia)
We invite submissions for the first meeting of Balkan Analytic Forum organized by the University of Belgrade and Bulgarian Academy of Sciences to be held at the University of Belgrade (in person and online) in October 2023.
Balkan Analytic Forum is intended to bring together specialists in analytic philosophy from all over the Balkans to share their research on various topics in analytic philosophy, but it also welcomes approaches that draw connections between analytic philosophy and other philosophical traditions.
Balkan Analytic Forum aims to establish a platform for discussion where scholars related to the Balkans and interested in analytic philosophy can meet on a regular basis and present their work-in-progress or recent publications. The topics addressed will stretch from the history of philosophy to recent debates in analytic philosophy.
The topic of the first meeting of the Balkan Analytic Forum is“Normativity”and it will be hosted by the Department of Philosophy at the University of Belgrade, Serbia. The main conference will take place from October 19-22, 2023. However, the period from Oct 22 to Nov.1 will be open to other events, such as the workshop “Normativity of art” (October 28-29) and individual talks related to normativity.
We welcome submissions that consider the broad theme of “normativity” in all its forms, and from all perspectives.
We are especially interested in the following themes:
- epistemic normativity
- practical normativity
- aesthetic normativity
- normativity in logic
- legal normativity
We welcome other broadly related proposals as well.
Workshop “Normativity of Art” (October 28-29, to be held in person and online)
Our approach in this workshop will be multifaceted and aim to bring together contemporary debates on different aspects of the normativity of art: 1) normative nature of art criticism as it concerns individual artworks, its logic and structure, 2) various types of normativity corresponding in different ways to different art forms, styles and genres, 3) normativity of art as an institution – is it simple or complex, general or specific, intrinsic or instrumental? 4) the relation of artistic value to other types of values, primarily moral and epistemic, 5) normativity of aesthetic experience, its connection to emotion and perception.
Proposals are to be sent to [email protected] as anonymous abstracts (maximum 500 words) and a separate title page by June 2, 2023. The title page should include: title, name, institutional affiliation, email, and an indication of whether you would like to present in person. Also, please let us know if your submission is for the main conference “Normativity”, for the “Normativity of Art” workshop, or is intended to be an individual talk in-between the two events.
Decisions will be communicated by June 30, 2023.
The authors of accepted submissions will be invited to contribute papers to an edited volume.
The conference is hybrid (online and in-person), free and open to the public.
