CFP 2023 • TOPIC: BODIES • DEADLINE: 30 NOV 2023

The paper should focus on any philosophical issues linked to the concept of body. Possible lines might pinpoint the relationship mind-body or soul-body, as in modern or contemporary views (e.g., Descartes, Popper, Ortega y Gasset, Merleau-Ponty) or as in the theological perspective (e.g., Augustine, Aquinas). The paper might highlight the relationship between Leib and Körperas in the phenomenological perspective, e.g., Husserl, Scheler. Also, papers might consider the role that technology plays in relation with human bodies, e.g., Gehlen, Plessner, Ortega y Gasset, or explore the current topics of post- and transhumanism. In this sense, paper might also pinpoint whether technology has changed the relationship between human bodies and emotions, e.g., sexuality and digital bodies, AI, sex robots. New frontiers of bodily definitions and experiences might be explored, as in mind upload and digital conscience. A possible line of investigation might stem from the analysis of bodily emotions, as in Damasio, or whether body is linked to sentiments as in love or desire, e.g., Rée, Ortega y Gasset, Lacan. The paper might consider the epistemological frames of a bodily knowledge compared to a non-bodily or ideal one, since Plato on, also in relation with the concept of beauty. This last topic might be related to the analysis of the role of women and their relationship with bodily issues, as set in past or contemporary societies (e.g., de Beauvoir). Another possible analysis might be grounded in the issue of the control of bodies, as in bio-politics/necro-politics views, e.g., Foucault. Also, the difference between zoe and bios, e.g., Agamben, might be a possible area of analysis. The CFP also invites explorations in the area of artand artworks, where body widely plays a central role, e.g., Abramović, Yōko Ono. The paper might also explore the role of space in relation with body, e.g., Foucault, Ortega y Gasset, or in relation with time, e.g., Heidegger. Finally, the paper might focus on the role of the body as seen in non-Western traditions, e.g., Zhuangzi, Lao Tzu, the Tao.
