There is a recent revival of interest in the philosophy, philosophical anthropology and social theory of Karl Marx. Much of the new work in this area focuses on Hegel’s and the Left Hegelians’ influence on Marx’s thinking, and the Hegelian concept of ‘recognition’, widely discussed in contemporary social and political philosophy, is one of the perspectives from which Marx is being interpreted today. This workshop focuses on Marx, recognition, and closely related themes. The workshop starts with a presentation by Michael Quante, a leading German expert, and the next two presentations by Douglas Moggach and Jean-Philippe Deranty address aspects of Quante’s interpretation.
