Popular Philosophy Today is seeking submissions for its inaugural issue.

This Web-based publication and community focuses on both academic and
popular philosophy with an emphasis on contemporary events and
comparative philosophical approaches. Each issue will feature two
academic philosophical articles of journal quality with at least one
employing comparative or non-Western approaches. Additionally, each
issue will feature three or more popular philosophy articles aimed at a
more general audiences. In a marriage of theory and praxis, Popular Philosophy Today illustrates why philosophy matters in society, politics, and daily life
by offering insightful analysis of contemporary events, regular
columnists, bloggers, philosophical book reviews, movie and media
reviews, and commentary will be offered on a monthly basis. Also
featuring user profiles and philosophy forums, Popular Philosophy Today is more than just a magazine--it is a group of people passionate about philosophy.
Submission Formats:
Please include your full name as you would like it to appear,
institutional affiliation if any, a 200 word or less biographical blurb
(which can include any links to institutional or personal Web pages),
submission category and issue you think your submission should appear
in, and the best Web address for us to contact you at. All published
authors will have a Popular Philosophy Today account created for them if they are not already a member.
All submissions will be reviewed by our editorial staff within 10
business days and you will receive confirmation if your submission has
been accepted, if your submission has been tentatively selected pending
suggested changes, or if your submission has been declined.
Submissions should be in .doc, .docx, .rtf, or .odt format. All
articles should use Chicago-style citations using endnotes only (no
footnotes)
Academic Articles: 3000-5000 words
Popular Philosophy Articles: 1200-4000 words
Current Events Analysis (please contact us with your proposed subject before submitting): 800-4000 words
We also accept philosophical fiction, non-fiction and poetry, and media
submissions including video, photography and other visual arts.
For popular philosophy articles, do not assume prior knowledge. Do not use specific jargon or references. Individuals of little or no philosophical background should be able to reach, understand, and respond to your article.

Currently, Popular Philosophy Today is seeking submissions on the following topics
Issue One: Inequality (February March 1 issue)
Explorations of philosophical thinking and events related to inequality
broadly construed with an emphasis on understanding the philosophical
implications of the "Occupy" movement in the United States and abroad
Issue Two: Revolution (April 1 issue)
Explorations of philosophical thinking and events related to revolutions
with an emphasis on current popular movements such as the Arab Spring,
Occupy Wall Street, the mass demonstrations in The Russian Federation,
as well as movements in the recent past such as the Red Shirts
occupation of Bangkok, the Iranian Green Revolution and the Ukrainian
Orange Revolution
Issue Three: The Other (April 1)
Explorations of philosophical thinking and events related to
constructions of the other broadly construed both metaphysically and
socially, with an emphasis on LBGT rights (such as same-sex marriage)
and foriegn policy.
Issue Four: Truth and Lies (June 1)
Explorations of philosophical thinking about truth including formal
theories of truth and meaning and social and ethical implications of
truth and lies
Issue Five: Identify (July 1)
Explorations of philosophical thinking related to identity including the
metaphysics of personal identity, explorations of ethnic, national and
sexual identity, and debates of existential and essential theories of
identity.
