Water, Philosophy, and Politics

Dates: May 20-21, 2024

Location: University of Nevada, Reno. USA

This workshop aims to bring together people working on topics related to the philosophy of water, with particular focus on topics in political philosophy (justice, rights, obligations, agency, etc) and water.

We invite abstract submissions that explore topics related to the philosophy of water, including but not limited to:

  • What is water
  • What is a just distribution of water
  • Historical injustice and water
  • Democracy and water
  • Borders and water
  • Identity and/or Liberal Neutrality and water
  • Social ontology and water
  • Agency and rivers
  • Legal status of bodies of water
  • Interpersonal ethics and water
  • Emergency/Disaster ethics and water
  • Urban and/or rural justice and water
  • Any topic regarding water and value theory

Travel Funding Support:

For those without their own travel funds, the workshop may be able to provide up to $1000USD support, depending on budget availability. Please indicate in your submission if you would like to be considered for this support.

Submission Guidelines:

Abstracts should be 300-500 words, written in English, in Word document or PDF.
