Call for Abstracts 2nd International Conference on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence (2ICEAI)

UPDATE: The conference will adopt a hybrid version, allowing speakers who cannot be present in-person to give the talk online.

ETHICS OF AI AWARD:  The best-submitted abstract will receive the opportunity to deliver a special Award Talk (note: the selected author will have the fee waived) similar to a keynote talk. 

Description: The Ethics of Artificial Intelligence delves into the moral and societal implications of AI technologies. It explores the ethical challenges surrounding AI's decision-making, bias, privacy, and potential impacts on human rights and social equality. As AI becomes increasingly integrated into our lives, understanding and addressing its ethical dimensions are crucial. Ethical AI development involves ensuring fairness, transparency, and accountability in algorithms and systems. By promoting responsible practices, AI can be harnessed to benefit humanity while safeguarding against unintended harm. The main goal of the 2ICEAI is to foster a comprehensive and informed exploration of the ethical dimensions and implications of AI technologies by bring together experts, researchers, practitioners, and policymakers from diverse fields to engage in dialogue, share insights, and exchange ideas on the ethical challenges posed by AI.

The community is invited to submit proposals in different research fields until October 1st, 2023.


Topics might include (but are not limited to):

  • Algorithmic bias and fairness in AI systems
  • Data privacy and security in AI applications
  • Transparency and explainability in AI decision-making
  • Ethical implications of AI in healthcare, finance, and other domains
  • AI's impact on human rights and social justice
  • The role of international cooperation in shaping ethical AI policies
  • Case studies showcasing successful ethical AI implementations
  • Ethical considerations in AI research, design, and development
  • Accountability, Liability and Responsibility in AI research
  • Autonomous systems and their ethical challenges
  • The role of AI in addressing global challenges and sustainability
  • Ethical frameworks and guidelines for AI deployment
  • The Ethics of Sex Robots
  • Technological Unemployment and the Future of Work
  • [Special Track] The Ethics of Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare

KEYNOTES SPEAKERS:

  • Heidi Mertes is an Associate Professor in Medical Ethics at Ghent University;
  • Simona Tiribelli is an Assistant Professor in Ethics, University of Macerata, Department of Political Sciences, Communication, and International Relations.
  • Inês Dutra is a Principal Investigator of the research group AI4Health – Artificial Intelligence in Health of the University of Porto.

FEES (from 10/10/2023 to 31/10/2023)

Professionals (posdoc, professor, tenure-track): € 120,00

Students: (Master, PhD): € 80,00

 
Languages of the colloquium: Portuguese and English.

Proposals should include two files: (in word. format): (1) a cover page with identification, academic affiliation, and title (2) an anonymized title and abstract (maximum 250 words).
Paper duration: 30 minutes (20 minutes presentation + 10 minutes for discussion) Papers presented at the colloquium are expected to be published in a collective, peer-reviewed volume.
