Winter Seminar on Plato in Siracusa:Republic Book I, January 2-6, 2024

The opening book of Plato’s most famous work is such a masterpiece that it could stand on its own as an early Socratic dialogue. Participants will read and translate the Greek in a roundtable setting while discussing its philosophical content; they may also present papers or posters on relevant topics. Competence reading Ancient Greek is recommended but not required. The seminar takes place during the first week of 2024 in scenic Ortigia, where the winter weather is mild and the island is active but peaceful. Participants are invited to come early for the New Year’s Eve bash on Piazza Duomo and at Exedra. Abstracts received by October 15, 2023 will be considered for early acceptance. Final deadline for abstracts isDecember 15, 2023. Find more information here; register here, or contact Susi Kimbell [email protected]
