CALL FOR PAPERS

Submissions:Abstracts of approximately 500 words on any philosophical topic are welcome (for undergraduate submissions, see below).  The deadline to receive submissions is New Year’s Day: Monday, January 1, 2024. Authors of accepted papers will be notified by the end of January.

All submissions should be formatted for blind review and sent to Patrick Rardin, NCPS Secretary-Treasurer, at [email protected]. Please use the subject line “2024 NCPS Submission”.

In the body of your email, please indicate your name, email address, phone number, and institutional affiliation (if any), and keywords. If you wish your paper to be considered for a prize (see below), please note this and indicate whether you are an untenured faculty member, graduate student, or undergraduate.

Location: All sessions will be held on the campus of Davidson College, Davidson, North Carolina. The Town of Davidson is served locally the Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) (around 25 miles away via I-77 Express Ln).

Panels and Workshops: Panel and workshop proposals on any topic in philosophy, including its pedagogy, are welcome. Proposals should specify issues to be discussed, format (including time to be allotted), and names of presenters, and should include brief abstracts of presentations.

Undergraduate Papers: A sufficient number of undergraduate submissions will allow for a session devoted to papers by undergraduates. Undergraduates should send papers (not just abstracts) of approximately 3000 words in length. Undergraduate submissions should be clearly labeled as such.

Prizes:There will be a $200 prize for the best paper submitted by an untenured faculty member, a $150 prize for the best graduate student paper, and a $125 prize for the best undergraduate paper. Awarding of prizes is contingent on an adequate number of submissions. If you would like to be considered for a prize, please be prepared to submit a paper of approximately 3000 words by February 15th, if requested.

Format: A combined program by SCSP and NCPS will be divided thematically into concurrent sessions with presentations of approximately 20 minutes. Depending on evolving particulars concerning the pandemic, masks, social distancing, and other procedures may be enforced. Virtual presentations considered for special requests only.
