Inquiry Workshop, Spring 2024
Call for commentators-at-large.

The aim of the Inquiry Workshop is to bring together scholars from a range of diverse backgrounds who are interested in, and working on, topics related to inquiry, broadly construed. The workshop will provide a friendly and collaborative space to discuss new work on inquiry. The role of a commentator-at-large is to ask questions, and to be an engaged participant in the workshop discussion. We are inviting early career scholars who are working on inquiry, and who are either graduate students or who are no more than 5 years from defending their PhD, to apply to be commentators-at-large.

We are interpreting the topic of inquiry broadly, and would welcome applications from philosophers who are working on topics such as the following (note: this is a non-exhaustive list!):

  • the norms of inquiry
  • questions
  • curiosity and inquiring attitudes
  • norms of attention and salience
  • group inquiry
  • scientific inquiry (including feminist approaches to scientific inquiry)
  • philosophy of journalism
  • inquiry and political discourse
  • inquiry and structural injustice
  • inquiry and epistemic injustice
  • inquiry and ignorance
  • ethical norms on the limits of inquiry
  • historical approaches to inquiry

Commentators-at-large may also be asked to serve as a Chair for one of the sessions.

Limited funding may be available for those who don't have access to funds from their home department.

The application form is available here: https://forms.gle/qCVVcDAeD1tYWBZs6

Deadline: November 20th, 2023.

Commentators-at-large will be selected in early December.
