Florida State University’s chapter of the Minorities and Philosophy Club invites submissions of abstracts for its Annual Graduate Philosophy Conference to be held on 3/22/2024.

Our keynote speaker this year will be Lewis Gordon, Board of Trustees Distinguished Professor of Philosophy and Global Affairs and Head of the Department of Philosophy at the University of Connecticut. He is also Honorary President of the Global Center for Advanced Studies and Distinguished Scholar at The Most Honourable PJ Patterson Centre for Africa-Caribbean Advocacy at The University of the West Indies, Mona. He is the author of many books, including, most recently, Freedom, Justice, and Decolonization (Routledge, 2021); Fear of Black Consciousness (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, and Penguin-UK 2022); and Black Existentialism and Decolonizing Knowledge: Writings of Lewis R. Gordon, edited by Rozena Maart and Sayan Dey (Bloomsbury, 2023). His accolades include the 2022 Eminent Scholar Award from the Global Development Studies division of the International Studies Association.

Submission Guidelines

  • Deadline: Monday, January 1st, 2024, at 11:59pm.
  • Length: No longer than 500 word abstract. Abstracts should be suitable for a 20–25 minute presentation.
  • Subject Matter: Black Existentialism, Decolonization, the Black Experience, Social & Political Philosophy, Philosophy of Race, Gender & Sexuality, and Phenomenology. Alternatively, anything that explores the intersection of philosophy minority populations, including race, gender, class, sexuality, disability, culture, and/or native language minorities.
